September 13, 2024

The Intensive one-week in presence module of the course, entitled “Effective Management and AntiFraud Controls in the Use of EU funding instruments”, was held in Rome, at the Luiss Campus in Viale Pola 12, between Monday 9th of September and Friday 13th of September. The course, under the didactic coordination of Professor Aldo Sandulli, was developed within the CENTRAL EUROPEAN INITIATIVE. Many participants of the BETKONEXT research group contributed between June and September to the initiative.

The aim of the course was to show the functioning of the system for the protection of the EU’s financial interests from the perspective of the instruments available in the EU and Italy to several Balkan officials. The course was directed to 18 representatives, such as 3 public sector officials representing each individual Western Balkan country.

The course covered several aspects from a cross-sectional perspective. Lectures that dealt with administrative law profiles were complemented by others that emphasised the criminal law and EU law aspects of the issues.

There were also various institutional meetings, relating in particular to: the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; the Italian Court of Auditors and the relations between EPPO (European Public Prosecutor’s Office) and the Italian General Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of Auditors; ANAC, Italian National AntiCorruption Authority.

The participants visited COLAF during the week.

Today officials will attend the keynote speech by Cruciano Cruciani, Coordinator of the Technical Secretariat of the Italian AntiFraud Coordination Service (AFCOS).
